So you’ve finally decided to remodel your bathroom! I’m sure you already know a properly done bathroom renovation is one of the best ways to increase the value of your home, and make you feel more comfortable when living in it.

When considering your bathroom renovation project you would probably be living under a rock if you haven’t heard of “Holmes on homes”, and you probably know Mike Holmes always wants to “make it right”. Well, the reason for this has everything to do with the quality of the work and how long the job will last (without damaging other things). The best way to ensure this is to ensure you have the right materials for the specific job that needs to be done, and have them installed in just the right way to ensure quality, long lasting performance.

Aside from the fact that a professional renovation contractor will ensure that all the required permits and inspections are obtained, they will also be able to help you design the look and feel you want from the finished product. Often your bathroom renovation specialist will even make suggestions you never would have thought about on your own. And when you hire a professional to do your bathroom remodeling, you will also be reducing the amount of time your bathroom is not usable as professionals will use there skills and experience to do a better job, in less time then most home owners could even consider.

Another thing to keep in mind is a professional renovator will be aware of special dangers that might be present. For example, bathrooms built before 1980 may have an asbestos lining in the walls that needs to be treated very carefully during removal to prevent it’s dust from poisoning both the workers and from spreading around the house as well.

As you can see, having your bathroom renovation project professionally done will save you time and ensures you can enjoy the efforts for as long as possible.

If you are planning to do your own project by yourself, this article will help you plan your tiling project in the best and most inexpensive technique to get your loo tile design underway.

Please note,to get good results,it pays to plan out your ideas on paper. Then once yours ideas are clear and well thought out,a smooth problem free job should be the result.

A good DIY plan saves money, time and effort.

Take care choosing the materials and tools needed.

Make Your Tiling Project Look Amazing

Getting ideas about how you would like it to look can be a stumbling block. For ideas take notice of washrooms and similar areas that you like when you travel about. Checkout Google images, magazines and shop displays.

A brilliant idea is to pick contrasting colors for the floor and wall. Then have a skirting line the floor .

Another idea is changing color at chest level, that may boost the look of the job when finished.

Try to select accessories that compliment the color of the walls. If it appears to be right it usually is right.

Choosing the Right Tile

Here you must think about, color, size and is it good choice for the job.

They come in two sorts.

Porous, they absorb water and non-porous,they are water resistant. For areas were it will get wet or moist, chose the non-porous ceramic kind. For this type of job, water resistant are best,

Does a turn out make it in the size, color and design you require? Don’t forget tiles are made in groups and you will always need a few more than require for the job.

To help you, there are a huge variety of standard designs on sale at reasonable cost.

So now you’ve got a concept how you want it look. Next materials.

What Size Tile Should you Choose?

If the area you would like to cover is small,a large tile could well look out place. A Smaller design will sometimes be a wiser choice. With a plain color, the size it’s not so important.

How much Tile will you need?

To work out the quantity of materials that you need, you must take accurate measurements of the total area that you wish to cover. When you have selected the size of the tile you are going to use, simply work out the number required. If in doubt, just ask at the shop when you get your stock.

You must also remember to consider the gaps between every one when figuring out the number needed, so make sure you include spacers, suitable to the size chosen.

When working out, consider more than half as a full one and less than a half as a half. If you have selected a multicolored finish, calculate each color separately and note down the separate requirements.

Ordering You Tiles

Order on the premise of the measurements taken. Note that they are packed in boxes and the supplier is unlikely to sell them individually.

Always order extra, even the best professional break a few! Another good reason to order additional is replacement in the future. This is a good practice. Why? Well finding a matching replacement in a few years time may not be easy. Chipped or cracked tiles need replacing so often. Getting the right color or pattern can be terribly tough to do.

Tools For Tiling

Use the best tools. Hiring the correct tool for the job, is generally the most cheap and safe answer.

Remember,Plan,Plan and you will take out a large amount of the issues out of your own bathroom tile design before they appear, resulting in a good job well done and you can be proud of.

When it’s time to replace or upgrade any of the floors in your home, there are a large number of materials from which to select. If you take a little time to research and plan you can get good results. When a house owner has made a decision to take the leap and install new flooring, what are the options available for the flooring material?

HARDWOOD : hardwood flooring are fast turning into the most popular flooring material. There are a wide variety of woods and grains to choose between, for example oak, pine, maple, cherry, even bamboo. Once the wood is selected, it is feasible to stain the wood to any color you like, from a light natural color to a deep rich mahogany, or anything in between. When professionally maintained, hardwood floors can literally last a lifetime.

LAMINATE : Laminate flooring materials are designed to look like real wood while providing a less complicated installation and lower cost. It is also simpler to clean and maintain than hardwoods. It is a manufactured product with a top surface that seems like exact wood grain. Different sorts of laminate flooring have different installation strategies. Some may want to be glued down, while others simply click together to create a “floating” floor. Also, some need a separate underlay, while others have a thin padding attached to the base of the floor pieces.

VINYL : Vinyl floor covering is available in multiple forms these days. It can be acquired as one giant sheet or as individual tiles. A giant sheet of vinyl requires a special adhesive to be applied while installing and will most frequently result in one or more seams. The tiles can be of the standard variety of vinyl, requiring a separate application of adhesive, or as peel-and-stick tiles. Peel-and-stick tiles are lined with adhesive, which is covered by a paper backing which is peeled off in order to stick the tile in place on the floor.

CERAMIC AND STONE : There is an endless and stone floor coverings available. These tiles could be made of baked ceramic, marble, granite, slate and other stones too. The tiles come in several different sizes as well, with larger tiles best suited for the floor down to small accent stones. This is maybe the flooring choice, which requires the most steps and time to install. The correct sub-floor must be in place and then mortar is employed to stick the tiles to the sub-floor. It is highly critical to ensure the tiles line up properly and are level, so there is some detail-intensive work involved. Before the floor is finished, all the spaces between the tiles must be stuffed with grout. The investment of time and effort pays off in a handsome and long-lasting floor.

CARPETING : If you favor the softness and heat of a carpet, you’ll have myriad colours and textures from which to pick. There are many various materials used for the carpet yarn, for example wool or nylon. Wall-to-wall carpeting nearly always will have some kind of padding underneath it. You should get the highest quality padding you are able to afford. This will contribute more to the life of the carpet than upgrading the carpet itself would.

CONCRETE : In some applications, it may even be feasible to install a concrete floor. This option provides great sturdiness. Concrete can give an industrial look to your décor and it’s also good for areas that receive hard wear. If the sub-floor is formed of concrete, it could just be painted or stained to improve the appearance. If a new concrete floor is being poured, coloring can be added to the concrete although it is mixed. This gives an abiding color instead of a surface application, which could ultimately wear or peel.

So how do you select among the numerous options? First, consider how options? First, consider how the room in question will be used. Also remember whether or not there are kids in the house. For people with allergies, carpeting could be a breeding area of allergens, in which case a hard surface, for example hardwoods or ceramic tile, would offer a more cushy living environment. With the endless sorts available, you are sure to find a flooring material to match your needs.
.

Home improvement can add that special touch to your home environment. Redesigning and redecorating can boost the appeal and appearance of your house. A straightforward way to increase the resale value of your home is to install a hardwood floor.

I would like to give you some tips for hardwood floor installation. However, you should take proper process to handle it or remediate it.

Ensure the site is structurally sound and finished before beginning any work. Subfloors should be clean, flat and dry. Many issues come from using an unacceptable subfloor for flooring, so it is crucial to get this right the 1st time! Wetting the painted area first before scrapping it off, will keep dust low.

Establishing your baseline and the direction of floor is a crucial step.Be meticulous in measuring and marking lines.Remember the longest outside wall gives the best visible effect. Being meticulous with the details can make the proces easier and quicker.

If you don’t put enough nails on the hardwood floor then the flooring is going to be loose and it will make lots of noise they are walked on. So be sure that there are enough nails to keep the floor intact. Well, the above ideas are important and are directed at spotlighting the tiny points to hold in mind when establishing your hardwood flooring.

How to Choose a Home Renovation Contractor

When you have to pick a contractor for some of the renovation work on your house, how will you going to notice the difference between a certified professional and a charlatan? Research and the right questions are what you will need to make this vital call. Keep reading to discover how to pick the right contractor and save yourself both time and money.

How to Interview a Contractor

When interviewing a potential contractor, it’s important to ask these questions:

1.
Are you licensed in this city/state? If your potential contractor has a license, get the number and call your local building department’s licensing office to validate it. Also, call your Better Business Bureau and your nation’s Customer Protection Agency to discover what’s needed to get a license in your state.

2.
Are you provide me with three references from jobs done in the last year? Use references to test your contractor’s work history, reliability and ability to stay on budget and schedule.

3.
What insurance do you have? Contractors should come to you insured. They should have general liability, workman’s compensation, auto insurance, and property and private guilt. Ask for a copy of your contractor’s insurance because the last thing you need is legal and finance responsibility should an accident happen on your property.

4.
How experienced are you? Learn how long your contractor has been in business. Anything over five years is usually a sign of a reliable, stable business.

5.
Do you have a portfolio? Most contractors will have before and after pictures of their past work. Look through these to get an idea of the type of work your contractor does and their abilities.

6.
May I have a detailed estimate? Ideally, you want an estimate or quote that is itemized and includes work, materials, overhead and a schedule. Ask for it in writing so you can easily compare it with guesstimates you receive from other contractors.
